History across a peninsula

Alanya Castle occupies a peninsula reaching into the sea and preserves traces of different periods. Much of its monumental character developed under the Anatolian Seljuks. Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I took control of the city in 1221, after which its fortifications were strengthened. Think of the visit as exploring a historic landscape of connected buildings and streets.

The citadel and coastal views

The citadel, known as İçkale, stands in the upper part of the peninsula and can be a main stop on your visit. Allow time for cisterns and architectural remains, as well as photographs of the coast and sea. The gallery includes a view combining the citadel and Kleopatra Beach. Ehmedek and the old streets

Ehmedek is a fortified area in the northern part of the castle. The walking route between Süleymaniye Mosque and the citadel is another option for exploring the district. You may prefer to focus on masonry, traditional houses or street scenes. Choose the stops that interest you and allow a comfortable pace rather than trying to cover the entire area at once.

The Red Tower and Seljuk shipyard

The octagonal Red Tower by the harbour and the arched shipyard beside the sea connect the castle with its maritime setting. Mention these stops if you would like to include them. Photography and time to rest

Stone walls, coastline and harbour views offer different subjects for your photographs. You may want unhurried panorama stops and short rests between walks. Tell us about sunset photography, coffee or a meal break so that the route and return time can be discussed accordingly. Before your visit

Choose comfortable shoes for slopes, steps and stone surfaces. Bring water, a hat and sun protection in warm weather. Families with children and guests who prefer shorter walks can share their needs in advance. Discuss a suitable route for pushchairs or wheelchairs separately.
